The Annual World Congress of the Open International University for Complimentary Medicine - Medicina Alternativa

The Annual World Congress of the Open International University for Complementary Medicine – Medicina Alternativa has been held since October/November 1962 and will be celebrating its 49th Anniversary in 2011 while looking forward to the Silver Jubilee celebration of its 50th year in 2012.at the BMICH, Sri Lanka.



How it all started…….

Sir (Dr.) Anton Jayasuriya, Founder of the Open International University for Complementary Medicine – Medicina Alternativa had a quest for searching for traditional methods of treatment and medicine in different parts of the world and found the answer in complementary medicine. He held seminars worldwide, creating awareness to what he termed as ‘Complementary Medicine’ which was an integrated process of a culmination of western and eastern medicine together with the traditional use of acupuncture.
The Open International University for Complementary Medicine – Medicina Alternativa is the main apex of the many affiliated institutes in 92 countries globally. While students enroll and complete their Diploma in Complementary Medicine, they attend the OIUCM –MA for their Degree Course in Sri Lanka and for further practical training.
